Bedded pack barn design

Greetings!

I am expecting to no longer be able to use my winter livestock barn, and have the ability to build a new one. I believe my context is best suited for a deep bedded compost barn, to shelter and house my beef herd. If you are willing to allow me and a my team to tour your barn that would be incredibly helpful, none of us have used such a barn before and would like discussion with experienced folks. We are near Boston and highly portable if you are willing to show us around. thank you!

Colby, We have several Amish Dairies within 30 minutes of my place who have bedded pack barns (at least 5). Some are timber frame, some are hoop structures, some are in between. You could vet some ideas up here in the snow belt!! Type in Peterboro NY to see the distance and route if you’re interested. I could probably facilitate visits cause we are all friends. If you can wait a couple of years the NRCS can fund a manure bedding pack barn. It’s a process to get approved and starts with a year long comprehensive nutrition management plan, but afterwards they help design and fund a large portion of the build. Might be worth looking into for a longer term post and beam build. We are in the process and it has already been a year and a half just to get started.

In the meantime a concrete block foundation/pony wall and hoop house ontop combo is a “cheaper” option that could always be set up elsewhere and used afterwards. Maybe as a big hay storage area.
