General Settings
The NELGL forum has lots of settings around email preferences. These settings can be found on your preferences page under the email tab.
Basic email settings (top 3 options):
The default setting will notify you when you are not on the site and are mentioned by name (@username), replied to, or there is new activity in topics, catatonias, or tags you are watching. You will also get an email whenever someone direct messages you.
Email digests or activity summary:
By default these are set to send out daily. You can disable them or turn on daily, weekly, monthly, etc digests. These will send you a summary of what you have missed while you were not logged in. Note that if you are logged into the site and are active you will not get these summaries.
Mailing list mode
This setting is also turned off by default. If you want to interact with the form more like a traditional listserv then turn this optin on. You will receive an email for each topic and each reply individually. You will be able to rely directly to the email and it will get posted to the topic.
Tracking settings
The basic settings can be found in the tracking tab of your user preferences page. Here you can choose what categories or tags you want to watch or track. Watching means you will be notified with every new reply.
You can also watch a particular topic by selecting the bell icon at the bottom of a topic page.
Notification on all new topics
If you want to get notified as soon as a new topic is created in a particular category or tag then enable them in “watching first post”. This is a a great way to stay active in the community on topics you are interested in.
Sending Emails to NELGL Forum
Replying
Any email you receive form the forum you can reply to. This will get posted as a reply on the forum. Remember you are replying to everyone and not just the person who posted.
Starting a new topic
If you would like to start a new topic you can send NELGL an email from the email account you are registered with on the forum. Your subject line will be the topic title, and the body will be the post. Ideally do not add signature lines to your email as your post will already be identified by your user name and signatures will just clutter up the posts. The system will do its best to identify and remove signature lines in your email.
Emails sent to different NELGL will be posted in different topics.
