Seeking goat breeding stock

Hello,

We are seeking information on farms that sell goat breeding stock (does and bucks), specifically goats that perform well on pasture for meat production. We’re currently in the research phase (identifying farms who sell breeding stock and budgeting for their purchase), so we wouldn’t be buying animals until summer or fall 2026.

The following are qualities we’re seeking in breeding stock:

  • Preference for Kiko or Boer (purebred or crosses) but open to other meat breeds
  • Animals must perform well in NY’s climate
  • From a herd that produces fast-growing meat goats on 100% grass/forage diet (fine if breeding females require grain supplementation during late gestation/early lactation)
  • Animals are accustomed to rotational grazing and trained to electronet
  • Breeding females carry good reproductive traits (good mothering, milk production, high rate of twinning, etc.).
  • Breeding male comes from a dam with good reproductive traits. Ideally from a twin birth; ideally proven but open to a younger buck.
  • Animals have good conformation
  • Herd does not have Johnes, CLA, or CAE
  • Healthy parasite resistance
  • Hardy hooves - requires minimal trimming; free of hoof root and other hoof issues

If you or someone you know sell breeding stock that fits with some or all of the above, please reach out.

Thank you!
Maddie

We have always bought our replacement Kikos from PJM Goats out of NJ. He has some great breeding stock and always loved what we sold us. He usually has a good selection to choose from if you want to get into the weeds with details, but we just tell him we are looking for parasite resistance, good graziers, and ideally born on pasture. He has hooked us up with some great animals in the past.

I know I responded via email to you but I wanted to responded here incase it helped others in the future. Best of luck!

Thanks, Nick! I reached out to him after getting the rec from you and unfortunately he no longer has goats.

Oh no! That’s horrible to hear. I wonder what happened with them all. He had such a large flock that won all sorts of competitions.
